Stalker noticed that The Irish Times followed up on the press reports before Christmas about the mushrooms being used to treat certain forms of cancer.
The maitake D-fraction extract that garnered all the attention is being plugged as a major combatant against bladder cancer. Other health claims exist for the maitake mushroom also, such as good for blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and effective against obesity and hepatitis B infection. Of course none of these have been proven scientifically yet.
The new research re anti-tumour effects all took place in the laboratory and much more testing is needed to confirm efficacy according to the IT Health Supplement.
As Stalker has mentioned elsewhere, take all claims with a pinch of salt, not a bad way to eat mushrooms and digest mushroom news; but then again it’s not necessarily good for the blood pressure.
