The ultimate English breakfast line-up has been identified by a panel of experts and happily for the mushroom industry the fresh produce makes it onto the list.
Few culinary topics are more contentious than what constitutes the classic morning fry. The Ulster Fry as we all know generally has mushrooms served with it, along with soda farls and potato bread. Now we can rest assured that they make it on to the plate for the perfect English fry too.
Country Life magazine has tried to set down the benchmark by hunting down Britain’s best food producers to make the perfect plateful. Controversially, its line up comprised sausages, white pudding, black pudding, mushrooms, bacon and fried eggs.
On the winning platter were mushrooms from Capel Mushrooms – Portobello mushrooms, organic flats from their farm near Ipswich.
Stalker is sure that the Irish produce easily makes the grade for inclusion on any self respecting English breakfast plate.
The judges on the panel were tempted to include kidneys, kedgeree and other idiosyncratic delights – thankfully they didn’t!
