Stalker is always amazed by the ingenuity involved in recycling and reclaiming materials.
A report from the Boston Globe this month reveals an ingenious method for using certain leftovers from commercial mushroom growing to help fit out a new house build.
‘Eco-friendly materials were also used in much of the home. Interior walls are panelled with mushroom board, a material recycled from boxes used to grow mushrooms commercially. “Enzymes in the soil of the mushroom beds eat away the soft wood, leaving an attractive raised grain that resembles aged barn board, yet it’s newer material, so it lasts longer,” says project architect Greg Ehrman.’
