Stalker has heard that suppliers within the mushroom industry are becoming increasingly concerned over the extended credit periods being taken by growers.
One leading supplier has stated that they have to clamp down on accounts that have now gone out to over 60 day’s credit.
Whilst they could appreciate that conditions could be a lot better for growers, the spokesperson for the company stated that they could not support such credit terms any longer.
Suppliers to the industry have to pay for goods within 30 days and are finding it hard to meet this strict requirement when growers often take much longer periods to pay accounts.
The spokesman continued, “Every other industry is becoming much more professional when it comes to this kind of matter, and it is high time that our industry brought itself into line. Unfortunately, we are finding ourselves with little choice in the matter, and growers must understand that things are not only difficult for themselves at the moment, but that their suppliers are also feeling the pressure”.
