Stalker noticed a big advert in the UK national press for Sainsburys in the middle of June.
“50p Each” was the eye catching figure. The advert was for British salad favourites, with cucumber, tomatoes Lettuce and mushrooms all pictured.
The price stated didn’t mean 50p for each mushroom, but 50p for a 250g punnet of mushrooms. Once again the produce was getting a good plug, but the price for the produce was of course very low.
Similarly with Aldi in the South there was a fresh veg push at the beginning of June.
Stalker notes too that Lidl are flagging up mushrooms in June as well, selling a 250g punnet for 33p. Now that's cheap.
All the promoted fresh produce was 49c, and that included fresh mushrooms too. As ever it is to be hoped that suppliers do not have to take the pain of the supermarket promotional price slashing, but one can be sure that in the long run they do!
Nevertheless, a hike in demand is what is needed when there is too much supply - last month it seemed oversupply was the case. So a canny response by the supermarkets then.
