Who knows what conference day will bring - new friends, new business links, new contracts? If nothing else it is a good excuse for a day out, a meal and a drink at a good hotel, and a chance to natter with old friends, and see old and new faces.
The longer summer evenings also drum up enthusiasm and good humour.
