Once again there are news reports extolling the virtues of eating mushrooms and hailing the potential health benefits that accrue, especially against cancer.
The latest research coming out of China is specific about women and breast cancer ,and the fact that there seems to be a causal link between fresh mushroom consumption and a reduced chance of suffering from breast cancer.
If the results are accurate then it is a great boon for mushrooms as a medicinal nutrition and an even greater boon to women warding off the dreaded cancer. As ever Stalker would be slow to advocate the munching of mushrooms everyday in order to head off a cancer risk.
As the sages of old noted, all things in moderation. In this instance too, a moderation of mushrooms may be more in order.
It cannot be doubted though that the humble mushroom is creating quite a stir in the world of nutrition and medicine. With the recent scare on drinking one glass of wine per day for women, increasing breast cancer risk, can one then eat mushrooms to offset that risk? Suppose it doesn’t work like that.
News too of white button mushrooms being effective against prostate cancer, and a mouse study claiming immunity boosting properties for the common white button mushroom - it all sounds too good to be true.
