With all the negative economic news out there, and environmental woes to boot, it’s easy for the average schmo to succumb to apocalyptic fantasies.
Stalker has thus far managed to avoid any plunge into melancholia due to the economic meltdown, and hopes that Gaia will do her thing and automatically save us from environmental meltdown.
However one quote Stalker read recently did put the chill wind up the back.
Food writer John McKenna was holding forth on the future of Irish hospitality: “ Our pub culture is dying, whilst our restaurant culture is thriving. The Irish have decided to choose restaurants over pubs, simply because restaurants offer us service as part of the experience, and service is a concept that is alien to so many public houses. The era of the pub is over.”
If he’s right, the end of the world could really be nigh!
