WAGES BOARD PIONEER

Former MP, Bert Hazell,  who helped set up the Agricultural Wages Board, has died in his 102nd year, on January 22.

The Agricultural Wages Board was seen as a big step forward for farm workers, as it offered them protections they had not enjoyed before.

He was also the Norfolk secretary of the Farm Servants' Union before it was subsumed by the National Union of Agricultural Workers.
