The Mushroom Business magazine carried a feature on an art installation involving mushrooms in their October issue. The button mushroom phenomenon of pushing through a layer of asphalt that resembled a road was the gist of the piece. The substrate and spawn were covered basically by a road and over the life of the "installation" the clumps of buttons push up through the tarmac.
As the article says, Topterra will claim its their casing which gives the magnificent result, and Amycel will claim it’s their spawn that really is the bees knees. But mushrooms of all hue have a great ability to grow on or through anything!
Stalker wonders will expert pickers be brought in to pick the art patch? The exhibition is happening in Vienna and is the work of Klaus Weber.
The piece is entitled "Unfolding cul-de-sac" - a weird title and a weird piece of art. As we all know, cul-de-sac literally translated means bum of the bag. The mind boggles.
