Driving past the newly upgraded compost yard belonging to Walsh Mushrooms in Gorey, County Wexford, it's impossible to not remark on the new chimney that is erected in site.
It's all part and parcel of an upgrade that cost in the region of €1.5 million. In these dire economic times it is a sure sign of strength to be investing such sums in new plant.
The new chimney is also the visible manifestation of the new environmentally friendly ethos that the Walsh group have embraced whole-heartedly. The company's new compost facility also includes the new mammoth 7,000 sq ft shed ( if one can call it that.)
The whole compost under roof innovation is there to ensure compliance with EPA standards.
It is great to see new investment and new thinking in the mushroom industry - especially in these current times of economic doom and gloom around the globe. Any chink of sunshine is reason to be hopeful.
