Stalker wonders if anyone else out there is interested in the rubric included on the bags provided for mushrooms in the supermarkets these days.
Once again the Tesco paper and cellophane strip bag has caught Stalker's attention.
The instructions and blurb has changed since the last time Stalker looked. Stalker notes that Tesco is still promoting the fact that it won Fresh Produce Retailer of The Year at the retail industry wards in 2003, 2004. Hmmm, no awards since then seems to say more!
The Tesco bag reads:
Enjoying Mushrooms at their best Store in this bag in the fridge They will keep fresh and tasty for 2 days Rinse or wipe mushrooms before use Closed Cup Mushrooms White capped mushrooms are great for frying on their own or as an ingredient in a meal. Flat Mushrooms White cap mushrooms that have been matured and allowed to open in the growing bed. They are full of flavour and their shape makes them ideal for barbecuing or stuffing.
Stalker must admit that the mushroom bags do give an extra little push for the produce.
The 2 day limit for remaining fresh and tasty seems a bit stringent - in these more thrifty times one might think that the mushrooms will last a tad longer than that. And the advice on rinsing the produce does seem at variance with other advice from more fungiphile quarters.
No matter - as long as the customers keep buying them, growers and marketers will be happy.
