There was news from a much talked about classic golf tournament in the Co. Armagh locality in late June.
Unimush Ireland sponsored the pre summer solstice tournament which was in aid of Middletown GFC.
The big day took place in Loughgall on Friday June 20th - thankfully the weather held for it, just about.
The tournament was the talk of the land, by all accounts, with pre-tournament talk of a prize for a car for the first hole-in-one on one of the hardest holes.
Unfortunately the sponsorship for the prize car was pulled just before the big day - this was due to the Golfing Union of Ireland competition rules which prohibited the prize car giveaway.
Stalker is reliably informed that there was a fabulous hole-in-one on the day.
GBP10,000 was raised for the football club during the event, and the assembled masses had a big night when they repaired to Hughes in Middletown for evening refreshments and stories of strokes missed and balls lost.
A great day was had by all the participants, many from the local mushrooming fraternity as well as from footballing circles – we hope to have more details of winners next month, and perhaps some of the tales from the day.
