Back in the last century virtually all shelving was constructed from aluminium.

The pros of aluminium shelves: easy to clean; light to transport; container friendly; high corrosion resistance; life expectancy - lifetime (10-15 years for galvanised); high scrap value; shelves on which grant is drawn are costing Euro4 /sq metre above scrap value; easy to take down; high resale value.
