Back in the last century virtually all shelving was constructed from aluminium.
This was necessary where phase 1 was filled, because of the high corrosion effect of the compost. With phase 3 compost and the high cost of aluminium, a move to galvanised took place in more recent times.
Now with top quality aluminium shelves available in Ireland at competitive prices, there is now no reason to make do with what many regard as an inferior product.
The pros of aluminium shelves: easy to clean; light to transport; container friendly; high corrosion resistance; life expectancy - lifetime (10-15 years for galvanised); high scrap value; shelves on which grant is drawn are costing Euro4 /sq metre above scrap value; easy to take down; high resale value.
Our man in Ireland reckons if you still have any doubts then take a look at all the second-hand aluminium shelving that has been sold in Ireland (as new).
There you have it, practically from the horse’s mouth – so don't say you weren't told!
