The world bog snorkelling championships, traditionally held on the August bank holiday Monday in 4 ft deep trench bogs at Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys in Wales, have been cancelled because of the foot and mouth outbreak. Mourne Compost's Joe Cullen went to Wales for his holidays at the end of August – maybe it was his surreptitious intention to attend this premier event in the bog snorkelling calendar.
