The recent currency differential between the Euro and sterling has caused some former growers in the North to re-examine the profitability of mushroom growing again. The talk from a few growers is that the potential for profits exist with the Southern grower being squeezed by the currency fluctuations.
Stalker reckons it would take a brave person to re-enter the highly contracted industry after an absence. The climate out there is still cut-throat with respect to pricing from the multiples, and to get up and running again without any hitches would seem to be nigh on an impossibility.
