Stalker was delighted to learn from the winter newsletter that the boffin ranks at Teagasc have been swelled.
The influx of new PHD students and a full time staff member is good for the industry in the long run and good for the science emanating Kinsealy Research Centre.
The new full time mushroom technologist is Brian Mc Guinness. His role to assist and provide tech support to existing research projects will help in establishing a mushroom disease and virus diagnostic service to the industry in the future.
The two new PHD students Ms Justyna Piasecka and Mr Balasubramanian Velusami will be working on Verticillium disease and aspects of SMC disposal and management respectively. Both these students' areas of research will no doubt in time prove of major importance to the mushroom industry in Ireland and probably beyond as well. Good luck to them both in their respective studies.
The importance of all the work being done at Kinsealy cannot be over stated – let's hope the boffins keep producing sterling work that helps the industry maintain its competitiveness and quality hallmark.
