Stalker was interested to see the new mushroom punnet from SP Sharpack that is made from recycled polypropylene.
The report in Mushroom Business (Feb 2008) states that a quarter of the packaging is made from a 'natural mineral filler', and that the punnets have a shallower de-nest, thus enabling more punnets to be packed into outer boxes for a fuller lorry.
This packing space reduction leads to less haulage necessary and a subsequent reduction in emissions.
Stalker doesn't claim to know what a 'shallower de-nest' is all about; but smarter, greener packaging is surely a must in these supposedly eco-conscious times.
