Sadly there were no responses to the Romanian appeal last year. However the charity has not given up hope and is still very keen to source second-hand equipment in Ireland.
The demand for mushrooms in Romania is very good at the moment, according to sources on the ground, and with the charity's situation of having available labour in the young people the idea is one they still wish to pursue.
The winter conditions in Siret, which make outside work almost impossible, means mushroom growing would be ideal from a work point of view for the youngsters.
According to charity co-ordinator Irishman Simon O`Connor, "They regularly ask when our next batch of compost is arriving!
If you hear of any equipment available including a basic system for making the compost please contact us." Email: simon@marsin.ro or telephone 0040 230 281331
