The December issue of The Mushroom Journal was mostly devoted to the subject of compost and the sometimes fraught relationships that exist between composters and growers in the industry.
Focussing on the MGA Conference 2001, the Journal carried three presentations on the subject – "What makes a good, and consistently good, compost?" The basic message in the issue was that a greater level of trust needs to be built between grower and compost producer, with feedback and support being engendered within the relationship too.
The editorial new year wish also caught Stalker's eye: " may all your composts be potentially 700lb-a-tonners!"
Certainly a wish that would please both growers and composters if it came true.
