Stalker extends thanks to one unknown contributor in the North West who sent in a clipping on the massive straw harvest in Donegal that has become a tourist attraction.
The 1,000 round bales on the Grianan Estate in Burt has attracted the attentions of tourists on coaches, who are having themselves photographed in front of the huge field of golden stubble and massive bales. There are 1,002 bales in the 60 acre field, a testament to a great harvest.
The report states that: "straw sales have collapsed at the end of September and start of October as farmers adopt a wait and see policy with regard to bringing in winter fodder. In recent weeks bales were fetching as much as Euro15 each, but this has slipped back somewhat."
This could all be good news for the compost producers who have been seeking high and low for straw since the spring!
Let's hope it is a good omen for the months to come.
