The editorial in the September issue of Mushroom Business made for uncomfortable reading in Irish circles, and in other countries mentioned in it throughout Europe, with meteorological metaphors raining down all over the place.
"Dark clouds gathering above Ireland and the UK" where everything seemed to be in question -" problems with casing soil, spawn, and compost quality and quantity".
Hmmm, not all bad news then!
France receives a mention, where mushroom production has apparently fallen by 38% in the last decade. The Dutch also get a touch and US companies facing labour crises. No-one it seems is safe.
Well saying that, the Polish industry didn't seem to merit any dark rumblings.
So it goes - the weather forecast, stormy in some areas, sunshine peeking through in others, perhaps.
