The foot and mouth nightmare hasn't gone away. The recurrence of the virus in Surrey was not a great surprise – considering the ravages of the disease in 2004.
The close shave still has the potential to develop into a full-on situation. This is the third farm to be hit by the latest outbreak – the last near Egham in Surrey.
The latest case, within the protection zone, came just as the outbreak appeared to have been contained.
Once again the drawbridge of the Fortress Ireland approach has been raised.
Time to keep the fingers crossed again and hope that the contagion is fully contained this time around.
