Stalker has heard on the grapevine that some meetings have been taking place consisting of industry parties and governmental types to try and form a unified front to help the Northern industry survive.
The industry in the South has been seen to come together, to some extent, to try and consolidate their position and essentially circle the wagons to protect what is left. Compost producers, casing producers, growers and marketers are hoping to achieve the same in the North, along with DARD, Invest NI and UFU.
Perhaps a package can be strung together to put the industry on a firmer footing. With a sympathetic ministerial ear, the hopes are that a package can be delivered before it is too late.
In the end though, it may be in the hands of the multiples to secure the future for the industry.
Time will tell - until then it's all digits crossed and touch wood.
