Stalker was reminded that the curse of the apostrofly (i.e. apostrophes that go missing, or are wrongly included) forever assails the printed word.
The misplacement or lack of apostrophe in written English is the bane of teachers and sub-editors up and down the land.
In last month's note entitled "Exiting Industry", one reader spotted the egregious mistake of "counties" instead of "county's", in reference to the exodus from the mushroom industry in Co.Tipperary.
Once again, the sub-editor involved has been taken out and flogged with the cat-o'nine-tails, and has been forced to go and reread the punctuation and grammar best-seller "Eats, Shoots and Leaves".
Spotting grammatical errors is fun for some, and work for others.
Stalker can't wait until text speak - (or should that be txt spk) - becomes the lingua franca de nos jours. No punctuation, nor worries about spelling necessary.
