Anyone who saw the Lurpak advert airing on terrestrial telly this month must have thought the promotion was for fresh mushrooms.
The beautifully shot advert begins with an intense shot of woods, then trees; then a pin-sharp close-up shot at ground view; suddenly things begin to struggle through the mossy leafy ground.
Alien looking at first - recollecting the scene from Alien perhaps, the white protrusions break forth.
Then we see what they are - fungi; fresh full-on mushrooms, of all sorts. Then the voice over begins - "Mushrooms are natures survivors! They deserve respect! Porcini, they can take on a lamb chop single-handed. To the brave soul who first discovered that mushrooms were edible, we salute you brave food warrior!"
Cut to a shot of multiple mushrooms frying in a pan. Then a man goes to eat a single mushroom, just cooked, from the pan.
Then the Lurpak butter packet hoves into view - and finally the Lurpak slogan is deployed, orally and visually.
Maybe Stalker is biased, but it seemed more like an advertisement for fresh mushrooms.
Can't have done demand for the fresh produce any harm at all.
