Stalker's spy network in the world of academe has reported that the local industry in Ireland may be under yet more academic scrutiny in the months ahead.
Stalker is aware of several PhD students focussing on the mushroom industry in different subject areas, from science to anthropology.
It would now appear that the sociologists/ economists' beady eyes may be trained on the industry too.
The Institute of Development Studies at Sussex University has sent out some feelers. An academic from that revered institution is carrying out research on migrant workers in the Irish mushroom industry.
Information exchange is already underway Stalker understands between various academic types. So, stand by for more elucidation and explication of what has been going on the industry, and why.
Although considering the time lag involved between research and publication, it may be a while yet before we understand the industry better.
Let's hope there's an industry left to understand the understanding of itself!
