Market forces are all if one buys into the rhetoric of capitalistic consumerism.
Currently the market demand for the fresh mushroom produce is perkier, slightly up due to various reasons.
But does this slight spike in demand translate into better prices for the grower? That is a question that has no clear answer.
Growers are pretty sure that they're being squeezed at all times, even when prices seem to be good! What is the cause behind this? Maybe one needs an economist on the job to analyse and cogitate and crunch the numbers and come up with a theory or answer.
On the ground though, the grower’s wife might say - it's the growers fault, none of them ever talk to each other, to let each other know what prices they’re getting for their produce.
There could be some truth in that - we all know the old spake, whatever you say, say nothing. It seems to apply to the mushroom industry in spades.
The flipside is that marketers too have a lot to answer for when it comes to the prices that growers get paid.
