The news in March about the 500m eggs in free-range fraud is deeply disturbing for anyone who cares about where their food comes from.
In November it was revealed consumers were being duped into paying over the odds for what they wrongly believed to be free-range eggs.
At the time, investigators thought the swindle involved around 30m eggs.
But they now believe the figure is closer to 500m and estimate that the scam has cost consumers £50m. And in a new part of the inquiry, they say some battery eggs are also being passed off as 'organic'.
As with eggs, so with mushrooms! Consumers like to know what they are getting, and as long as it comes from where it states on the packaging, and that it is organic when it says so, then all will be well.
Stalker hopes we never have a similar situation, where the origin of the mushrooms one is going to eat is in question!
