Some early Sunday morning television viewing in February threw up a funny mushroom anecdote.
The programme was interviewing folk about scams and dodgy practices.
The subject of the day was organic food scams - selling food that wasn't organic at all was the name of the game. Reportedly the use of fancy wrappers to repackage food that is not organic, as highly priced organic produce, was the most lucrative and oft used ploy.
The interviewer then told the story of his local green grocer, who said that when his mushrooms started to go brown and had been sitting unsold for too long; he just put a sign on them that said they were organic. Subsequently they sold like mad.
When asked if he ever had any comeback about the "organic" mushrooms, he replied - the only thing people ever queried with him was that the organic mushrooms were so very tasty, when was he getting more in?
