The old adage that if something works one ought not to fix it, has generally stood the test of time. Compost producers have been finding that the adage rings true for them in the case of the plastic for bagging.
The plastic comes on rolls. The plastic suppliers decided that the inner cardboard cylinder tube, that supported the plastic rolls, was causing them not to rotate smoothly at all times, due to a crumpling effect. So they decided to change the inner tube from a cardboard one to a hard plastic one. Composters received the new rolls, only to find that they weren't compatible at all with their equipment. It looks like a case of back to the drawing board. One compost producer had to return 10 of these massive rolls; Stalker reckons this must have been a massive pain in the rear, especially at this time of year.
