The morning of Friday 27 October was a bad one for the mushroom industry in Ireland. The Pat Kenny show on RTE radio carried a report, that lasted nearly a full hour, on their investigations into alleged abuses in the mushroom sector.
The show definitely was uncomfortable-listening for anyone associated with mushroom production in Ireland.
No element in the report shed any good light on the industry.
FreshInfo.com in the UK has picked up on the proposed probe into pesticide usage, which cannot have done much to bolster consumer confidence in the UK fro the Irish fresh produce.
Many industry personnel may have felt like going ga-ga after listening to the show. There were certainly a lot of serious issues aired.
