A new body seems to have been formed in the light of recent media investigations into ongoing negative perceptions about the mushroom sector in Ireland.
The new entity, the Mushroom Employers Committee has been born into somewhat choppy waters. The Committee's aims are to address issues at industry level and reportedly, it has already met with SIPTU and the MRCI.
Vincent Turley appeared as a spokesman for the new industry committee in the recent expose on RTE radio 1. He performed solidly, in the face of some persistent and uncomfortable questioning from the presenter.
Vincent pointed out that prices for the produce of the industry have gone down by 25% over five years; however this didn't stem the tide of questions about exploitation of workers within the industry.
Cleaning up the image of the industry seems to be the stated intention of the new committee - Stalker wishes them well in their endeavours.
