September was the warmest for over 100 years in many parts of Ireland according to Met Éireann.
“Temperatures were above normal throughout the month,” the weather services monthly bulletin said. For Dublin’s Phoenix Park, it was the hottest since 1865 and according to the bulletin it was Malin Head’s hottest since 1895.
Last month’s temperatures were up to three degrees higher than September’s mean values of 15 to 16 degrees the report said. “These values are even higher than those for a typical August.”
The bulletin characterised the mild weather as a side effect of deep Atlantic depressions, which made September in Ireland especially windy and wet.
“Rainfall totals for the month were above normal everywhere.”
Last year September and October taken together were the warmest combination in more than three centuries of records in the UK.
Sea temperatures of the Irish Atlantic coast are this year up by 2 degrees – “a colossal rise” according to one scientist. Does this mean global warming is happening?
If so can we expect some of the more violent weather that has been predicted to happen with the phenomenon?
