With all the dire prognostications about the bird flu wiping out millions across the globe, it seems a bit petty to wonder at what impact the H5N1 virus might have on the local mushroom industry.
Nevertheless, considering the composition of the compost used in the industry, it is pretty certain that if the pandemic take hold (the experts would say ‘when’ it takes hold, not ‘if’) there will be some fallout for the industry.
Perhaps investigating alternative substrates might be a wise course of action before the doomsday scenario takes hold.
Maybe it won’t matter a damn.
With a dead parrot in quarantine (sounds like a Monty Python sketch) the blue flu seems to be just round the corner!
