Greyfriars mushroom supremo John Smith appeared on the Six O'clock News on the Beeb in September.
Stalker won't give you three guesses what he was talking about. Tesco, of course.
The rise and rise of the supermarket giant's profits has been making the news again. £900 million in profits in the first 6 months of this year!
The BBC report was coming from Thirsk in Yorkshhire. They didn't have to go too far to find a dissenting voice against the “mighty multiple”.
Mr Smith didn't mince his words, he set about accusing the supermarket of treating suppliers unfairly and with absolutely no loyalty. His eloquent critique of the company was in stark contrast to the simplistic patter of Tesco CEO Terry Leahy. Mr Leahy simply stated that customers have choice and they choose to shop in Tesco.
Stalker is sure that suppliers are choking when they hear the word choice emanating from the Tesco chairman's lips - when they have no choice but to bow to every barmy edict from the forceful multiple or else forfeit their contracts.
There's significant lop-sidedness in the supermarket game - surely there's a readjustment of attitudes just ahead.
