Stalker was happy to see that the Times Educational Supplement provided a wall chart on Fabulous Fungi in September.
The chart was full of weird and wonderful facts and figures on fungi, e.g. how Otzi the iceman whose 5,000 year old body was found in the Alps, was carrying fungi for medicinal reasons (with recent reports on maitake boosting immunities, it seems like we’re back to the future with fungi), and how the space station Mir brought back mutant fungi to Earth when it splashed down in 2001.
Stalker had no idea that the mushroom stalk is called a stipe; no doubt Michael would not be amused.
Hopefully the wall chart might seed a few young minds with an interest in all things mycological, producing some boffins for the future.
