Stalker was amused by some mushroom news items emanating from the US this month. The first item that caught the eye was about the benefits of mushroom hunting as a new form of exercise:
" Mushroom hunting easily meets all the requirements listed to get kids, as well as adults, exercising. We were getting our exercise without knowing it." That was the main gist, and indeed it sounded like a good idea.
Then Stalker spotted another news item the next day: Mushroom hunter shot by turkey hunter -
"Harvey L. Faul, 63, of Hillsboro, was mushroom hunting in the Fallsville Wildlife Area. John Grote, 46, of Morrow was turkey hunting in the same area when he shot in the direction of Faul.
The Ohio Department of Wildlife is currently investigating the incident. Grote and Faul did not know each other and both were hunting alone."
Maybe then the exercise regime might not be so safe – being shot at and being mistaken for turkey is a bit much.
Stalker was further alarmed by this posting to a newspaper website in Washington County:
"I have a question for the gentleman who goes mushroom hunting. I have a 12 gauge shot gun and a .22 calibre rifle and I was wondering which gun would be better for mushroom hunting? If you could please call and leave an answer."
Hmmm, remaining a couch potato could be the way to proceed.
