This annual conference looks at trends in the mushroom industry, including diversification in the number of species produced and increasing efficiency on the part of growing operations.
The conference takes place on June 12-15, 2005 Nittany Lion Inn State College, Pennsylvania.
In recent years, the mushroom industry in the US has moved steadily toward diversification in terms of the number of edible mushroom species cultivated. Shiitake, several species of oyster mushrooms, enokitake, maitake, shimeji, morels, and truffles are now cultivated on a commercial scale.
Nationwide, the numbers of both Agaricus and specialty mushroom growers has declined. However, the output per farm continues to rise as growers increase their efficiency and/or expand their operations.
