John Smith, head of Greyfriars, the Yorkshire-based mushroom packing company that recently lost a contract with Tesco, has taken the unprecedented step of openly accusing Britain's biggest retailer before the Office of Fair Trading of violating a code of conduct aimed at ensuring that supermarkets treat their suppliers fairly. Tesco denied it had violated the code, and said an OFT probe would be "absolutely fine". Smith accuses Tesco of imposing unacceptable costs on suppliers to sell their goods. Isn't it good to see someone standing up and making themselves heard on the issue of treating suppliers fairly?
