Just as the USA and its coalition forces must consider exit strategies in relation to the Iraq situation, so must growers consider their own exit strategies when it comes to the mushroom industry contraction.
Amycel rep Kieran Smyth was alarmed to compare a trip he took to visit growers in the Wexford area before Christmas, and a visit he made this month to the same region. Three growers had shut down in that short space of time in that one region. An alarming rate of exit from the industry indeed.
Stalker has heard other industry insiders report rumours of one grower a day shutting down operations.
At that rate there will be no industry left within the year!
