In the last few years Atkins was all the rage – eat protein, lose weight, and get smelly breath!
The Atkins diet is being supplanted this year by the GI diet it would seem. The slogan goes, lose weight, feel happy, and stay that way. For those not in the "know" low GI eating is about choosing food according to its glycaemic index.
As usual there are many claims about what this new mode of dieting/ eating will do for you.
The happy news for the mushroom industry is that, as with the Atkins diet, the new GI method also promotes the humble mushroom as a top food to eat.
In the GI world mushrooms are regarded as having a low GI index, and are thus consumable in the extreme for adherents of this new fashion in eating healthily.
Thankfully there has been no fad diet, nor any scientifically proven reGImen that would sway consumers away from the mushroom – but all it takes is some crackpot dietician to recommend steering clear of a food group, and wham, the market will feel the impact.
Stalker of course will be remaining on the bread and water monastic method for dieting and self-improvement! Do pass the cream buns…
