There were a couple of familiar faces expected at the Reen Christmas do that didn’t appear.
Sean McArdle's daughter Michelle and new Amycel rep Kieran Smith were noticeably absent from the festive frolics in Middleton. As both of them are keen golfers there was some speculation that they were off whacking balls on some course or other in the country.
The truth of the matter came to light when Michelle's sister Elaine revealed that the duo had flitted away to the Slieve Russell hotel in Cavan, for a romantic dîner à deux in honour of the anniversary of their first meeting a few years ago.
Some folk twigged at this point that something was afoot. The news was finally confirmed later that the couple had entered the blissful state that is engagement.
After their lovely meal, the couple had gone for a stroll in the moonlight around the hotel's grand ornamental fountain, which magically lit up as Kieran descended on one knee and expertly produced the sparkling ring, along with the requisite words of courtship. Luckily for himself Michelle accepted his entreaties of affection.
Suffice to say, the couple are now engaged.
