There was little fanfare and scant media attention, but the bustling Tipperary town of Cahir was the setting this month for the latest, hottest "new thing" for the mushroom industry in Ireland.
The Monaghan Mushrooms Equip team, spearheaded by George Farrell, had just fitted out the progressive mushroom farm of James Quinn with a full new array of Dutch shelving. No big news there, nor cause for fanfare one might think. However the Monaghan Mushrooms Equip team were also delivering a brand new combination filling and casing machine – the very first new machine to be installed in Ireland. This is without doubt a major coup for the Monaghan outfit to be the first to bring this advanced Dutch technology to the Irish grower. The technical team from Limbraco B.V. of the Netherlands was also there at the installation of the new machine.
The new filling and casing machine allows the grower to fill with compost and casing in one fell swoop – an economy in time and effort, and a major boost to the efficiency of the two processes as well.
Congratulations to James and Barbara Quinn on the acquisition of their top of the range machine – it is sure to free up a considerable amount of time for them. Stalker has heard that growers up and down the country are eager to get a look at the new machine in operation, with an eye to maybe making the leap into the future of the industry in Ireland as well.
Congratulations also to the Monaghan team for bringing the Irish industry forward.
