The 6th Mexican Mushroom Conference "Fungi expo 2004" was held at the Melia Hotel in the beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, on the Pacific Coast. In Mexico, consumption of mushrooms has been increasing by 25% annually for the past five years making it the leading country in Latin America with 40,000 metric tons per year. This result is basically due to the promotion of diverse production techniques unknown in the past to the Mexican industry. In attendance at the conference were large, and important, companies from the service, machinery and equipment sectors, as well as buyers and growers. One of these companies was our very own J.F. McKenna Ltd. Shay Clarke from JFM delivered a presentation to the large numbers of growers in attendance on the Irish growing system and the possibilities for its implementation into the Mexican market. The conference lasted for four days in total, finishing up with an exciting boat trip along the coast of Puerto Vallarta, soaking up the sunshine and the ambience of the magical Mexican experience.
