A bravura TV performance by a contributor to The Mushroom People was to be seen on BBC N.Ireland's coverage of the Balmoral Show in the middle of May.
Stephen Jess the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development resident expert on all things entomological was interviewed by news anchorwoman Donna Traynor on the subject of flies.
Donna wanted to know why we were being plagued by these quite striking black flies in the middle of May. Stephen was able to tell her that the St. Mark's fly, so named after the saint's feast day on which it normally appears, is a 7 – 10 day wonder. A short-lived nuisance indeed.
Stalker rated the 5 minute slice of telly very highly for educational content – one could tell that Stephen is eager to impart knowledge about the lifestyle and lifecycles of the insects that he studies.
