The very damaging storm that hit the UK and Ireland last week produced many stories of woe throughout the country.
Although there was no reported damage to any mushroom farms per se, the high winds have caused disruption at the Port of Holyhead in Wales, which saw red alerts and highly damaging winds.
The port closure is causing massive disruption to freight and passenger traffic on the busiest inter-island route at one of the busiest times of the year. One Galway haulage firm, nearly thirty years in the business - is reporting massive disruption. A lot of the product moved by the company is fresh foodstuffs heading to the UK supermarket sector.
“One of our customers produces mushrooms. You can’t tell them to stop growing. They are going to keep growing every night and have to be picked everyday, and be got over to the UK.”
