Piet Lempens, Chairman of the Mushroom Days Foundation, announced on the event’s website that the 36th Dutch Mushroom Days, scheduled to take place from 1-8 July 2022, has been cancelled. According to the press release, the reasons for the cancellation were the following:
The preparations for the upcoming edition of the Mushroom Days of 6, 7 and 8 July 2022 were in full swing. Unfortunately, we now have to inform you that the event will not take place this year.
At the end of March, the organisation received a request from a number of exhibitors to postpone the fair planned for this year for various reasons, including the war in Ukraine. At the same time, the organisation received signals from other exhibitors that the fair should continue. At the beginning of April of this year, the board of the Mushroomdays Foundation, in consultation with the Mushroom Days Committee, made a decision, taking into account the interests of all parties involved. The board of the Champignondagen Foundation then decided to continue the preparations for the edition on 6, 7 and 8 July 2022. Because of the drama taking place in Ukraine, it would probably be less exuberant than the last editions, but certainly would do justice to all the positive developments in the global mushroom industry, the desire of visitors and exhibitors to meet again on the Mushroom Days after years and the need for renewed knowledge exchange. New relationships are always emerging, existing ones are being strengthened and the entire mushroom industry benefits from it.
Unfortunately, a large number of cancellations of already registered exhibitors have subsequently taken place, further questions have arisen whether enough visitors would come to the Mushroom Days and in general the economic situation has deteriorated, as a result of which the success of the Mushroom Days 2022 has been endangered. This would mean such a devaluation of the trade fair that the platform for meetings and knowledge exchange envisaged by the organisation, would no longer be the case. The organisation deeply regrets this decision but has seen no other option than to cancel the Mushroom Days 2022.
Through our website www.mushroomdays.com we will inform you about future developments.
