Sporekill is well known and used by many growers in Ireland for disinfection. Many growers may not know that it is registered as a PPP, which means it can also be used when the crop is present, without washing off as it has no harmful residues (Dr H.Grogan report, 2009) making it a versatile product for growers.
Recently, the registration label has been extended to include new uses including crate washing and disinfestation (fly control). For flies, it can be applied by spray on walls and door/frames or by fogging the growing room after filling. It works by direct contact, disrupting their cell membranes so they dehydrate and are eliminated. Fogging with Sporekill should also help knock down spores that have entered during filling, encapsulating them and rendering them non viable so fogging is a practice against pests and diseases at the start of a crop.
