200 jobs are on their way to Littleport after controversial plans to build a state-of-the-art mushroom farm in the village were given the green light.
Major firms Barway Farms Ltd, G’s Growers and PGS Ltd have been given planning permission to build the 39-hectare facility on agricultural land at May Farm on Mildenhall Road.
The plans will see the companies construct 48 growing rooms, as well as a packaging building, a biomass boiler building and a 60-space car park.
An anaerobic digestion plant will also be built, which bosses say will produce around 2.4 megawatts of electricity every year to power the farmand feed into the national grid.
The facilities will create 165 full-time jobs as well as some part-time positions.
